The Marks Post: To the nines

LSU Baseball won its 8th College World Series this past Sunday, and it was the team’s second national championship in the last three years. That is an impressive accomplishment.
For me, though, this championship is a little sweeter than the past ones. Why, you ask? Well, let’s borrow Mr. Peabody’s time machine and take a trip back to 2016.
In 2016, a relatively unknown Coastal Carolina baseball team came into Alex Box Stadium to play LSU in the super regionals. LSU lost that series, and Coastal Carolina went on to the World Series.
Coastal Carolina then made it all the way to the finals against Arizona and ended winning its first ever College World Series.
This year, LSU got its revenge by sweeping Coastal Carolina in the championship series. LSU’s head coach Jay Johnson, by the way, was Arizona’s head coach in 2016 when the Wildcats lost to Coastal Carolina.
Not only did LSU avenge its loss in the Super Regionals, but Johnson avenged Arizona’s loss in the finals.
Revenge, as they say, is a dish best served cold.
While LSU found success on the baseball field this year, another team is having a successful season to this point.
The Chicago Cubs won their 45th game of the season on Tuesday, June 17. It was the fastest the team won 45 games since 2016. Also, Cubs’ hitters Pete Crow-Armstrong and Seiya Suzuki are the first pair of hitters since Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant to each have over 20 home runs before the All-Star break since, you guessed it, 2016. And, we all know how 2016 ended. The Cubs, that year, won beat the Cleveland Indians in Game 7 of the World Series to win their first Fall Classic since 1908.
Call me greedy, but I would be the happiest boy in the world if LSU and the Cubs win the World Series in the same year. What a time to be alive!
Geaux Tigers, and Geaux Cubs Geaux!
