A Ville Platte resident, 23-year-old Brittany Guillory, was arrested and booked into the Evangeline Parish jail for arson with intent to defraud. According to the state fire marshal’s office, Guillory is accused of trying to collect insurance money by setting fire to her house on the 1100 block of Beaver Creek Road on September 12.
The Evangeline Fire District contacted the state fire marshal’s office on September 16 to ask them to assist with the investigation. It was then determined the fire was set intentionally.
Investigators with the fire marshal’s office obtained witness statements and evidence, identifying Guillory as a suspect. Guillory allegedly admitted she told co-workers she planned to set the house on fire to collect insurance money because her family was struggling financially and the house needed repairs. She also allegedly admitted leaving the house with the stove on and a pan on the burner.
The case is still under investigation.
