COVID continues to impact parish

As the month of August drew to a close, the State of Louisiana reported a total of 679,796 cases of COVID-19 along with 12,359 deaths and 479 patients on ventilators. Due to Hurricane Ida, however, the Louisiana Department of Health paused reporting on Tuesday, August 31.

After last season’s cancellation of the Tee Cotton Bowl due to Covid-19 concerns, all systems appeared to be go for the game’s return to open the 2021 high school football season in Evangeline Parish. Apparently, it will have to wait another year.

COVID sick leave is extended

With COVID-19 surging, the Evangeline Parish School Board Executive Committee voted to extend COVID sick leave by five days for all employees. The federal government ended COVID sick days on December 31, 2020, and the school board extended those days until June 30, 2021.

EPSB learns latest CDC guidelines

Dr. Chuck Aswell provided the Evangeline Parish School Board with an update on the COVID-19 pandemic and debunked several myths regarding masking. Dr. Aswell also shared guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) pertaining to masking is schools.
