The Marks Post: “Plane” thoughts

People often say baseball is a funny game, but I am starting to believe basketball is also a funny game. Hear me out. Texas, who was 1-2 in its previous three games, beat TCU by 23 points, 73-50, on January 25. TCU turned around and beat LSU 77-68 last Saturday. It was the most points the Tigers allowed all season.
Despite the outcome of the game, it was still a good trip.
Jake Deville and I flew out of New Orleans Friday morning. It was a non-stop flight on Southwest into Love Field. Fun fact of the day... that was where President John Kennedy flew into in November 1963.
I’m not sure about our flight path but am pretty certain we flew over Bunkie. If so, the plane could have stopped and picked me up at the Bunkie International Airport.
Anyway, that was the weirdest flight I had ever taken. When we were about 70 miles out from Dallas, it felt like the plane was not flying anymore. It felt like we were just gliding in mid air. Maybe it was just my imagination, but that was the most stopped up my ears have ever been on a plane ... that is until the flight back.
We landed in Dallas and took an Uber ride to our hotel in Fort Worth where we met up with Jason Fontenot who wisely flew out of Baton Rouge.
We spent Friday hanging around downtown and trying out local beverages and cigars. Fancy, weren’t we?
Jason’s classmate from Vidrine High, Richie Miller, met up with us Saturday morning for the game.
I had a press credential and was expecting at least a hot dog or something. But there was nothing. I didn’t mind too much because we had a big breakfast at the hotel that morning.
What stood out to me about the game was the halftime show. It was a baby race. True, it wasn’t Quick Change or Red Panda, but it was nonetheless fun to watch. When the race started, most of the babies stayed where they were. Some started crying. The baby who eventually won kept going in and out of his lane. The babies next to him should have said, “Stay in your lane, bro.”
In all seriousness, the game wasn’t that bad. LSU was down big in the second half but cut the lead to within a possession. Foul trouble though did in the Tigers.
After the game, we did some more exploring of local establishments and flew back Sunday morning. I was back in Baton Rouge in time to make Mass at St. Aloysius and back home in time to watch the legend of Joe Burreaux continue as he led the Bengals to their first Super Bowl since 1989.
