Cowboys hold first football scrimmage of 2025 fall camp

By: RAYMOND PARTSCH III LSN Sports Editor LAKE CHARLES -- The McNeese football team wrapped up its first scrimmage of fall camp under coach Matt Viator inside Navarre Stadium on Saturday. The offense was led by four different quarterbacks who had varied results.

LSU is ranked in Top 10 of first Coaches Poll

By: TONY MARKS Editor When the preseason Coaches Poll was released, the LSU Tigers found themselves in the top 10. LSU is ranked 9th in the poll. Three other SEC teams are ranked in the top 10. Texas sits atop the rankings and is followed by Ohio State.

McNeese unveils new stadium name in association with naming rights deal

By: RAYMOND PARTSCH III LSN Sports Reporter LAKE CHARLES – McNeese’s football stadium will have a new name. The Cowboys’ football stadium known by fans as “The Hole” will now be referred to as Navarre Stadium.

Marks earns three LSWA writing awards

NATCHITOCHES — Tony Marks, editor of the Ville Platte Gazette and sports editor of The Oakdale Journal, earned three awards in the 2024 Louisiana Sports Writers Association Annual Contest. The awards were presented on Sunday, June 29, in Natchitoches.
APRIL BURKHOLDER — Competed at LSU from 2003-06, graduating as the school’s most decorated gymnast and still ranking nearly two decades later among the elite in the program’s rich history.
