After speaking with the village’s certified public accountant, Vic Slaven, Chataignier Mayor Justin Darbonne told the village council Monday night the village is not paying its officers according to a previously adopted ordinance.
Currently, the officers are getting paid $300.00 a month, however, the ordinance states officers should be paid $400.00 per month.
“We need to follow the ordinance, and we have to follow the ordinance that was passed,” Mayor Darbonne said. “That’s going to have to change.”
The mayor also reported the village will be applying for the maximum $25,000.00 from the Louisiana Government Assistance Program (LGAP) to purchase a side mower for the tractor.
Mayor Darbonne further reminded the council and the village residents about Saturday’s Breast Cancer Awareness Walk and Gumbo Cook-off. Gumbo booths are $25.00, the walk is $15.00, and bracelets to sample gumbo are $5.00. Soda, water, and extra T-shirts will also be available for purchase.
“I hope to see everybody out there,” said the mayor.
In other business, the council voted to change the November meeting date to Monday, November 25, and discussed the repair quote to the village tractor.
