Candidate announcement: Local CPA and current Chief Deputy Assessor announces for Assessor

Dear fellow citizens of Evangeline Parish, I’m Josh Fontenot and I have been working as your Chief Deputy Assessor for the last six years. Now I am submitting my resume’ to you for the job of Evangeline Parish Assessor. Primarily, you should know that I am a licensed Certified Public Accountant, also known as a CPA, and a Certified Louisiana Deputy Assessor. I have an accounting degree from McNeese State University.
As Chief Deputy Assessor, I have developed our first website accessible to you on any computer or mobile device (www.evangelineassessor.com). I have worked hard to ensure that our veterans and senior citizens are afforded the maximum tax benefits available to them. I worked diligently to assist victims of the 2016 floods and ensure they were afforded every benefit available.
Each year I have worked with our Police Jury, School Board, Parish-wide Offices, Municipalities, Fire Districts, Water and Drainage Districts and other governing bodies to ratify proper millage applications. I have assisted these bodies with various other concerns as well, including but not limited to, establishing anticipated revenues, verifying taxing boundaries and mapping and property ownership inquiries.
I also had the opportunity to assist the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office during its fiscal dilemma, helping address their budgetary concerns and implement policies to rehabilitate their financial future. I am committed to Evangeline Parish as a whole. As Assessor I will remain available to assist all governing bodies that may request my help.
My background as a CPA, my training and experience working as a financial auditor for a private CPA firm and my experience working as an inside salesman with Cameron International uniquely qualifies me to serve effectively as an administrator of the public trust and will serve me well in managing balanced budgets and accumulating annual surpluses in anticipation of accommodating future developments and requirements without asking the taxpayers for additional funds.
I will maintain an open door policy. I’ve enjoyed serving in my current capacity and look forward to serving as your assessor. I am a lifelong resident of Evangeline Parish. I am married to Sadie David of Ville Platte. Sadie has a Masters Degree in Education and is employed as a school guidance counselor. We have two children, Jax and Ty. I’m the son of Gerald and Kathy Fontenot of Ville Platte.
On behalf of my wife and children, we would certainly appreciate your consideration and prayers as we embark on this public commitment.
