Perry Vidrine, Farm Bureau, and Richard Guillory all share one thing in common. They are all champions of this year’s Ville Platte Gazette football contests.
Vidrine won first place in the reader’s division and placed ahead of Jody Ortego in second and Terry Guidry in third.
Also in the hunt were Jason Shillow, Goldie Fontenot, Chester Frank, James Vidrine, David Brou, Joe Maggio, Shane Darbonne, Justin Johnson, Carson Johnson, Carleen Vidrine, and Paul Vidrine.
Farm Bureau placed first in the business division by edging out Teet’s, second place, and Krazy Cajun, third place.
Also in the hunt were Bon Aimee Insurance, Ace Hardware, Evangeline Bank and Trust Company, Paul’s, Brown’s Furniture, Louisiana Home Builder’s, and Lemoine Insurance.
In the staff picks, Guillory again won the coveted first place trophy with an overall record of 95-37. He clinched the trophy by going 7-3 last week.
Garland Forman finished the season tied with Becky Nelson for second. They will break the tie at the Christmas party, and the loser will get the bottle of turtle wax.
Monique Ardoin finished third place this year, which will be a higher finish than her Dallas Cowboys in the NFC East.
Finishing in fourth place was Jessika Dupre. She is already circulating ideas to finish in first place next year. One of the ideas is stealing the red phone from the sports’ desk.
Fighting with Jessika for use of the red phone is Rhett Manuel who tied with Jessika for fourth place.
The guest slot finished fifth thanks to a strong showing from Tracey Jagneaux in the final week of the contest. He must still have the codes to the red phone.
Coming in at number six in the contest is Heather Bogard who finished the year strong at 8-2 for a 20-game above .500 mark.
And then there’s Maude. Or, in this case, there’s Tony Marks bringing up the rear. At least we had a few good laughs at his expense this year. But, he will get the final laugh when LSU wins the Independence Bowl this year by beating BYU.
Just like his Cubs, there is always next year for Tony.
