Chataignier Mayor Justin Darbonne, during the council meeting held Monday, May 18, reported changes to several employee policies.
“All village employees must turn in their time sheets by the second Wednesday of each month,” he said. “If the time sheets are not turned in by 2 p.m. on the second Wednesday, then pay for that time will not be paid until the following pay period which means they won’t be paid until the following month.”
Mayor Darbonne added the timesheets must be dated.
As he said, “Anybody can put they did this or did that. I want to see dates because I ride around town and know what’s done and what’s not being done. I know what dates the work is being done.
The mayor went on to report the village will begin issuing property citations on June 1 and the park is open.
“I had closed the park,” he said, “but people went and took all the signs down and went play anyway. I guess we’ll just say it’s open and let them go have fun.”
He continued, “I know school is out, and the kids are breaking their parents’ heads to go outside. So, let them go.”
In other business, Village Administrator Gail McDavid reported the sewer plant filter is still down, he converted the post office to LED lights, and, at the mayor’s request, called an exterminator about rats in the post office and police department.
Councilwoman Debra Fontenot quipped about the rats in the post office, “It ran right over my feet.”
