2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV) says, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
Although many who profess to be Christians would not admit to the sin of pride in their lives, their actions reveal otherwise. The very fact they turn to themselves first to resolve a situation before turning to God, if they turn to God, shows a prideful spirit. It is as if they are saying, “I don’t need God. I can make my own way. I know best. I call the shots in my life.” The fact is many people in the church world today are eaten up with pride. They have adopted the Laodicean mentality spoken of in Revelations 3:17. They have learned how to function without the help of the Lord, and it has destroyed the power of the church!
God desires His people take whatever steps are necessary to bring themselves under His authority. He wants us to know we are dependent upon Him for everything we have. He wants us to bend the knee to His authority in our lives. God’s people need to realize we were nothing when He found us, we would be nothing without Him, and we can accomplish nothing apart from His power in our lives. Jesus said, as is recorded in John 15:5 (KJV), “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me, ye can do nothing.”
Many people clamor for a touch of God, a personal revival. Well, examine your heart and see if the sin of pride is not there. If it is there, you need to deal with it and confess it before the Lord, for pride is a hindrance to personal revival.
