For the second year in a row, Bayou Chicot Elementary won the softball junior high state championship. The team clinched the title with a 1-0 win over East Ouachita and a 1-0 win over LaSalle.
According to head coach Chuncey Fontenot, this is the first time a junior high team from Evangeline Parish has won consecutive championships.
