The Basile Police Department responded to a report of a child being struck by a train Wednesday, July 9, at approximately 4 p.m. The incident occurred at the railroad crossing on Magnolia Street in Basile. The Basile police and the fire department responded, along with Acadian Ambulance, who were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Former Evangeline Parish boxers inducted into hall of fame

HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE - Janella and Archille Vidrine, shown here at their Ville Platte Home, recently recalled the once popular sport of boxing. Vidrine was recently one of this years inductees to the Louisiana High School Boxing Hall of Fame.

Several former high school boxers from Evangeline Parish became the final inductees into the Louisiana High School Hall of Fame during ceremonies in Sunset June 28.
