Candidate announcement

Hello, my name is Karen Vidrine, and I am a candidate for Evangeline Parish School Board member District 3.
I am a lifelong resident of Evangeline Parish and a 1980 graduate of Mamou High School. I have been married to Darren Vidrine for nearly 36 years and we are proud parents of three public school graduates - Thomas, Alex and Emily. My husband is also a graduate of the Evangeline Parish Public School System (Vidrine High School) and together we own a small business in Mamou and understand the importance of community service. Darren served as EPSB member from July 2013 to June 2018. During those years I began attending school board meetings with him. One of the best parts of that was the opportunity to hear about and recognize the amazing things our students and teachers are doing. But I also saw the struggles they face. This past June Darren resigned due to health reasons and I was appointed to finish his term. I would like to continue to serve and to fight to ensure all of our students have access to the best opportunities and resources our district can provide. I will be an independent voice for the students and teachers and a wise steward of taxpayer money. I will listen to the needs of our teachers, students and community members. Because I understand that a quality education helps position our kids to be successful adults, I will do everything possible to see to it that they are afforded the opportunity to succeed academically.
I believe in our school district and want to help create positive changes for our community, students and faculty. Therefore I am asking you to allow me to continue to serve as District 3 School board member by voting #49 on November 6th.
