Grand Jury issues true bill in two deadly matters

An Evangeline Parish grand jury issued two true bill of indictments after it assembled on Thursday to hear evidence presented by the Evangeline Parish District Attorney’s Office in two separate matters.
Indicted were Jessica Williams for manslaughter and Brandon Perkins for second degree murder.
The true bill issued for Perkins stems from a shooting that occurred on June 24, 2018, which left one individual dead and another injured.
Following the incident in June, a release from the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office stated that through its investigation, the EPSO learned that “a male subject,” who was identified as DeLanzo Veal, “had been shot in his upper body and a second victim, later identified as Katrina Thomas, also suffered from a gunshot wound beneath her lower lip.”
According to the release, the shooting was a result of an altercation that occurred between Veal and Perkins during the event.
The release stated that the “altercation led to the victim (Veal) being shot multiple times,” and that the second victim, Thomas, was “rushed to Oakdale Hospital for her wounds.”
Veal was also rushed to Oakdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Williams’ indictment stems from an incident that occurred on June 14, 2018, on Lincoln Rd., which resulted in the death of a male subject from stab wounds.
According to a release from the Ville Platte Police Department following the incident, through its investigation officers believed that a “domestic disturbance appeared to have taken place.”
Both Perkins and Williams at this time remain incarcerated.
