Zackery wins re-election as Mamou chief; Ardoin remains secretary of state

With 63.40 percent of the vote, incumbent Brent Zackery was re-elected chief of police in Mamou over challenger Charles Perdices in the runoff election held Saturday, December 8.
After the numbers came in, Chief Zackey posted on social media, “What God has started, he shall finish.”
Unofficial totals show Chief Zackery received 511 votes to Perdices’ 295. Unofficial voter turnout for the election was 36.5 percent.
Both Chief Zackery and Perdices were the top two vote getters in a crowded field of four candidates who ran in the first election held in November. In that election, Chief Zackery received 571 votes which equaled 50 percent. Perdices, in that same election, garnered 312 votes which equaled 27 percent. Also running in the November election were Michael Thomas with 19 percent and Michael “Gorilla” Fruge at four percent.
A break down of the runoff election shows Chief Zackery won in early votes by receiving 88 compared to Perdices’ 36.
A further break down by precinct shows Chief Zackery won each of the seven precints except for 3031 at Maison D’Egret.
In the same runoff election, incumbent Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin was re-elected over challenger Gwen Collins-Greenup.
Here in Evangeline Parish, Secretary Ardoin received 2,101 votes which was good enough for 71 percent. Collins-Greenup, in the parish, received 872 votes which was good enough for 29 percent.
Also on the ballot was a 3.71 millage for renewal for the Vidrine Gravity Drainage District Number 7 which passed by 75 percent.
