VPPD search for suspect in bed and breakfast burglary

The Ville Platte Police Chief is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a burglary suspect who recently broke into a local bed and breakfast.
In a release from Chief Neal Lartigue it states, “On Wednesday, February 21, 2018, officers with the Ville Platte Police Department responded to a report of a burglary on South Soileau Street.”
“Upon arrival,” the release continues, “officers learned that the suspects cleared out the entire contents of the Cottage Bed & Breakfast.”
According to the release, “officers notified Detective Clark who determined that the suspects gained entry and started removing items after 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday and into the early morning hours of Wednesday.”
The following items were stolen: an antique bed, couch, coffee table, antique end table, antique rug, tufted antique chairs, antique crystal lamps, 46” flat screen television, Centurylink modem, AC Unit, mattress, box spring with vintage bedding, handmade table cloth, microwave, espresso machine, cook top, utensils, bathroom towels, linens, rug, and toiletries.
According to the release, “the suspects also caused property damage to the interior of the residence while removing items.”
Following the incident, the business’s owner, Maggie Eades, took to Facebook, where she shared information about the burglary, as well as photos of items stolen and security footage of the truck that was seen driving to the backyard of her bed and breakfast.
In regard to the video posted on Facebook, Eades wrote, “Sooooo here’s the footage. Let me know if you recognize this truck. Seems to be older Chevy extended cab.”
In the post, Eades also expressed her feelings on the burglary.
She wrote, “I love our town and I am always positive that we as a community, can make it better. Through all the crime, robberies, theft, threats at school, I still try to stay positive. Today, I am defeated.”
