VPPD makes arrest in connection with shooting incident

Shots were fired in Ville Platte Monday prompting an investigation from the city police department. As a result of the investigation conducted so far, one individual, Kenneth Ashley Sr., 48, 628 West Huey P. Long Street, Ville Platte, has been charged in the incident.
“On June 24, officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of North Soileau and West Huey P. Long,” Chief Neal Lartigue said in a press release. “Upon arrival, officers learned there had been an altercation between a man and three of his relatives. According to the report, one male suspect ran over the foot of one of the other men, and a fight began. One person threw multiple punches, another grabbed a bat and assaulted the driver of the vehicle, and a third person grabbed a gun. The male driver fled the scene in the vehicle and hit another vehicle before finally hitting a tree. The reports also stated there were multiple shots fired between the parties.”
The press release continued, “All four were brought in for questioning, and three have been released. The investigation is ongoing, and Chief Lartigue stated the three other participants in the altercation will be facing charges as well.”
“Ashley was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated battery, one count of aggravated assault with a firearm, illegal use of a weapon or dangerous instrumentality, disturbing the peace, careless operation, no insurance, and driving under suspension. He was booked into the Ville Platte City Jail and is being transferred to the Evangeline Parish Jail on a $ 110,000.00 bond.”
