VPPD and other law enforcement agencies respond to separate threats

Chief Lartigue reports threats to Ville Platte High School and the Evangeline Parish Clerk of Courts Office in two separate incidents.
The Ville Platte Police Department responded to Ville Platte High School on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at approximately 3:30 in the afternoon when someone on campus received an Instagram message threatening to harm everyone. Officers, Detective and Chief Lartigue canvassed the surrounding area of the school and interviewed multiple people. The investigation is ongoing and assistance is being provided by the Louisiana State Police.
In a separate incident, the Evangeline Parish Clerk of Court’s Office received a bomb threat by email on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at approximately 12:30 p.m.
The building was evacuated as a safety precaution and Officers and Detectives responded to the Evangeline Parish Courthouse and set up perimeter security. The Louisiana State Police has been in contact with the agencies and stated that there was a mass email that was sent out across the state of Louisiana to many judicial agencies, schools and businesses. The Louisiana State Police is investigating the incident.
“We are taking these threats seriously as the safety of the citizens of Ville Platte is our main concern.” Stated Chief Lartigue. “Our investigations team is working diligently to identify the suspect(s) and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.”
Chief Lartigue stated that this investigation will remain open and ongoing and asks that anyone who may have information on the Instagram threat or mass email threat, to contact investigations immediately.
