VP Fire and Police Civil Service Board adopt special rules

At a meeting held Friday in person and via conference call, the Ville Platte Fire and Police Civil Service Board adopted special rules in light of the coronavirus outbreak.
According to board chairman Chris Soileau, “an employee who suffers an injury or illness arising out of and in the course of employment, now shall not be required to use sick leave, annual leave, or compensatory leave if the employee meets one of the criteria.”
Soileau added the criteria are “is quarantined at the direction of the employer due to confirmed or suspected COVID-19 exposure, received a COVID-19 diagnosis from a physician, receives a presumptive positive COVID-19 test, or receives a laboratory confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis.”
The special rules are to expire 120 after days after being adopted.
In other business, the board called for a fire chief test after Fire Chief Chris Harrison retired, approved the provisional temporary appointment of Fabian Poullard as interim fire chief, and approved the substitute appointment of Jacob Demourelle as assistant fire chief.
