The Ville Platte Chamber of Commerce’s January meeting, where the recent loss of funding from the Evangeline parish Police Jury was to be discussed, has been canceled.
The meeting was originally set for January 17, 2018 and then rescheduled for January 21st.
Chamber President Luke Deville told the Ville Platte Gazette on Friday, that the decision to cancel this months meeting was reached following an executive committee meeting last Monday.
Deville said, “We had a discussion during our executive committee meeting and decided that with everything going on, we would like to let things calm down some before we discuss this in public.”
The chamber first learned that the EPPJ would no longer be providing it with $650 a month for industrial inducement through an email sent on December 22, 2017 from EPPJ Secretary-Treasurer Donald Bergeron.
However, Deville shared that the chamber board is currently still in discussion with the police jury on a possible plan to address the loss of funding.
The chamber president said, “We want to have a solid plan before we say something to the general membership. We hope to have that plan to present at next months meeting in February.”
