EVANGELINE PARISH (Feb. 24, 2020)- State Fire Marshal (SFM) deputies continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding a mobile home fire in Ville Platte involving one death.
Evangeline Parish-Ward 5 Fire Department responded to the 3100 block Highway 167 in Ville Platte just after 4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 21.
Firefighters discovered the body of a male occupant near the back door of the home, along with the remains of four dogs. The SFM was then requested to assist with determining the origin and cause of the fire.
While official identification and cause of death are pending with the Evangeline Parish Coroner’s Office, the victim is believed to be the 58-year-old homeowner, who was disabled.
SFM investigators have determined the fire originated in the living room area, but an exact cause remains undetermined at this time. This investigation is ongoing.
