Wednesday the Ville Platte city council voted to approve a special election to be held Saturday, April 4, 2020 to renew the levy of a special tax for fire and police protection. The present council members voted unanimously for the special election. The levy of 4.0 mills tax on all the property subject to taxation in the city will be for a period of 10 years, beginning with the year 2024 and ending with the year 2033, for the purpose of the maintenance and operation of the city’s police and fire departments, including acquisitions of necessary equipment, pay salaries, benefits, and related expenses.
The council also announced there will be a special meeting Monday, November 25 at 4:30 p.m. to discuss the Louisiana Government Assistance Program (LGAP) grant.
