Following a flash sale at Teet’s Food Store where season tickets could be purchased at a discounted price, a representative from UL-L athletics addressed the Evangeline Chamber of Commerce Wednesday about other ticket deals.
“We want to be Acadiana’s university,” said Dustin Ponthieux, “and, to do that, we have to go out into the other parishes besides Lafayette.”
Ponthieux described representative programs that are available to spread the word about the Ragin’ Cajun sports programs around Acadiana.
One program is Cajun Cares that is a way of giving back. Ponthieux said, “For season tickets, it’s $20.00, and you buy a season ticket for either the Boys and Girls Club, United Way, military members, or veterans.”
Another program being offered is the Rally Program. “It’s a free program where you sign up your business,” said Ponthieux. “Then, you can get yard signs, team posters, window decals, schedule cards, and free tickets to select football or basketball games that are coming up.”
Ponthieux also commented on the success of the flash sale that had occurred on the previous Friday. “We gained 11 accounts,” he expressed. “We only had two accounts (in Evangeline Parish), so I think that’s an 850-percent increase. We can’t argue with that.”
In other business, Chamber President Luke Deville announced that the new committees have been chaired and that the Chamber is looking for members to join the committees. The committees are as follows: finance, by-laws and articles, education, governmental affairs, events, medical industry, small business, big industry, membership, economic development, and nominating and voting.”
“Committees do not meet every month all of the time,” said Executive Director Renee Brown. “A lot of our committees are set up on an as need basis, so we’re probably going to have two or three committee meetings a year. Having a group of people helping us also helps the Chamber and the community at the same time.”
The Chamber also announced that a small business workshop will take place on September 13 and a job fair sponsored by South Louisiana Community College will take place on October 18. Both events will take place at the Ville Platte Northside Civic Center.
