On Tuesday, the Village of Turkey Creek held its monthly meeting where the mayor shared several ways that the village will begin to save money.
Turkey Creek mayor heather cloud shared with the council that the village could save a total of $1,584 by switching dumpster companies from Republic Services to Acadians Waste Commission. The monthly cost for the dumpster service with AWC would be $158. With the new company, the dumpster will be serviced four time a year, which is the same amount of times as it previously was serviced with Republic Services.
After the council approved changing dumpster companies, the mayor went on to inform council members that the village’s cellphone bill was lowered by $40. This was done, according to the Mayor, by removing phone services that were not necessary, such a navigation fee that the village had been paying.
During the meeting, Mayor Cloud also took time to enlighten the council on a recent donation that was made to the village by the Girl Scouts.
“A local Girl Scouts group has donated money to the village for a handicap accessible swing at the park,” said Mayor Cloud. “Their slogan for the swing is, “Every person deserves to play.”
The mayor then went on to thank the Girl Scouts for their generosity.
At the April 17, 2018 Meeting, Brian Ardoin was present to announce that he will be running for the position of Evangeline Parish Sheriff in October of 2019. During his address to the council and mayor, Ardoin shared a little about himself, his career and his plans if he were elected.
To close out the meeting, the council renewed its intergovernmental agreement with the Evangeline Parish 9-1-1 Office for dispatch services at the continued rate of $100 a month.
