A topic concerning a cross-connection control policy for water lines was up for discussion at the Turkey Creek Council meeting last Tuesday.
Following a public hearing on the cross-connection control ordinance, which will require businesses that pose a threat for back flow issues, the council set to vote on whether they would approve the proposed ordinance. However, council members Kurry Stewart and Neal King made the decision to table the item until the full council was present to vote.
The deadline to approve this ordinance, according to village employee Willie Powers is October 15, 2018. Therefore, Powers shared that he will get an extension from the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals on when the ordinance needs to be approved to keep the village from being penalized and having to pay a fine.
The council and mayor then heard from representatives with CGG regarding potential seismic testing that may transpire in the Turkey Creek area.
This testing would be performed for the purpose of capturing an image five miles deep in the ground for oil and gas companies to use to determine potential areas to drill.
The council and mayor had questions regarding the possibility that roads within the village may be damaged from the equipment used to perform the testing.
However, CGG assured them that if any damage to roads occurred then the village would be compensated for repairs.
Before giving CGG the go ahead with this project, the council made the decision to set a public hearing to allow its residents an opportunity to voice any concerns they may have in regard to this matter.
The public hearing has been set for October 16, 2018, at 6:00 p.m.
