Turkey Creek council approves seismic surveying permit

The Village of Turkey Creek’s council approved a permit for CGG to begin performing a 3-D seismic survey within village limits.
At a previous council meeting, Todd Groves, with CGG, stated, “The purpose of the seismic survey is to provide gas and oil companies with a road map of underground rock layers they want to drill in.”
Discussions over whether to allow the 3-D imaging company to survey underground using roads within the village began back in September of this year.
The council, mayor and village engineer’s biggest concerns were whether or not CGG would cover any cost of damage they may cause to village roads. However, Groves assured Turkey Creek leaders CGG would provide the village with an insurance certificate, which would cover the cost of any damage caused by equipment used for the seismic survey.
This project is believed to have the ability to have an economic impact in the Turkey Creek area. The exact impact however is unknown.
At a previous meeting, Groves shared, “They are really optimistic about these areas. I anticipate that a year or two from now there will be a lot of activity in this area.”
The seismic survey will entail using vibe trucks, which are approximately the size of a garbage truck, that will arrive at a predetermined area and will use a plate under the truck that is lowered to the roadbed to inject sound waves into the earth’s surface. The surveying will create a 3-D image of underground rock layers down to about 26,000 feet.
CGG representatives have already begun visiting residents’ homes to get permission to access property during the surveying period.
With the council’s approval of the permit, CGG can now begin seismic surveying in the Turkey Creek area.
During the Tuesday meeting, Village Mayor Heather Cloud also shared Sharry Johnson will serve as this year’s grand marshal for the village’s parade on December 8th.
