It was a busy weekend for law enforcement officers in Evangeline Parish after three separate shooting incidents occurred leaving a total of two individuals dead and one hospitalized.
The first shooting took place Friday night in the Turkey Creek area and is being investigated by the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office. The second happened Saturday night in the Chataignier area and is also being investigated by the EPSO, while the third shooting early Sunday morning took place in the city limits and is being investigated by the Ville Platte Police Department.
In a press release from the EPSO, it states that on May 18, 2018, deputies and officers with the Turkey Creek Police Department “responded to Snoddy Lane in the Turkey Creek area in reference to a shooting.” The release continued, “Upon arrival, Deputies found that a male subject had been shot during a disturbance in which both subjects were armed.”
According to the release, “The shooter, identified as John Isaac Foret, had left the scene, but waited in a nearby area for law enforcement to arrive.”
When Acadian Ambulance arrived on scene, paramedics “requested that the coroner’s office be notified.” After arriving on scene, the victim, who was identified as Edwin Wesley Snoddy, was pronounced deceased by a representative with the Evangeline Parish Coroner’s Office.
According to the release, “Foret was located and questioned briefly, but advised he wanted an attorney.”
Foret has been released from custody “until more is learned” as the investigation into this matter continues.
The second shooting occurred on the opposite end of the parish near Chataignier shortly after 9:00 p.m. on Saturday.
In an EPSO release it states that the shooting took place “near the 7000 block of Chataignier Rd.”
The release stated that “the initial investigative interview by the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Investigators revealed that the wounded male subject identified as Daniel Breaux was upset with family members and had been causing disturbances throughout the day.”
According to the release, “at some point he and his brother Derrick Breaux got into a physical altercation for him attacking their mother and pointing a gun at Derrick.” Douglas Breaux, who was present at the time of the incident, tired to “defuse” the situation, but he was unable to do so.
Daniel’s father Richard Rozas “eventually shot a round towards the air to gain attention of the brothers fighting in an effort to get them to stop.”
However, the release stated that “Daniel continued and made an attempt to obtain a rifle.” Therefore, “out of fear, Daniel’s father shot him one to the abdomen in an effort to prevent further actions by his son.”
Following the incident, “Daniel was transported to Acadian Medical Center in Eunice by his girl friend Jessica Vidrine for medical attention,” and then “later Air Med to Lafayette General Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.”
No update on the victim’s condition is being released at this time.
The EPSO is still actively investigating this matter, and no arrests have been made at this time.
The third shooting incident, which is being investigated by the VPPD, occurred around 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning on Demourelle Street in Ville Platte. The victim was identified by family members as Holden Ardoin.
At this time, no further information has been released by the VPPD in regard to this matter.
