On Saturday, April 10, at approximately 11:57 p.m., officers with the Turkey Creek Police department were working traffic control around the area of US Hwy 167 and Pine St. located within the jurisdiction of Turkey Creek.
The officers observed a white SUV driving 58 mph in a 40 mph speed zone and stopped the vehicle for the traffic violation.
Once contact was made with the driver, a strong odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle. After investigation and consent to search, it was learned Erik Kidd was in possession of marijuana in the presence of a juvenile, possession of CDS with a firearm, and possession of CDS I with intent to distribute.
Kidd also had an outstanding warrant with the Lafayette City Police for armed robbery. Mr. Kidd was booked into the Evangeline Parish jail without incident.
Earlier that day, Officer Ronnie Stevens stopped a vehicle for a minor traffic violation and approached the vehicle. After a brief conversation and a verbal warning to the driver, Officer Stevens received a violation from the juvenile passenger for being awesome. Officer Stevens also received other items from the juvenile including a letter and a lucky penny.
Officer Stevens, being a father himself, said he never received anything like this in all his time on patrol and thought it was pretty “awesome” that this happened on his shift. See attached photos from the traffic stop.
Turkey Creek Police Department would like to thank the public for its continued support for department and community.
As always Chief Steven Ardoin would like to thank the public for their continued support and to report all suspicious activity and all suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
