Officers with Turkey Creek Police Department made two separate drug related arrests recently in an attempt to rid the community of illegal narcotics and keep the citizens safe.
Nicholas Paul Carter, of Turkey Creek, was found to be in possession of illegal narcotics during a traffic stop on the morning of Saturday, August 15. During the field interview, the officer observed, in plain view, a "loaded" syringe within the vehicle. After further investigation, Carter was found to be driving with a suspended license and additional narcotics was located. Carter was charged with illegal possession of a Schedule I CDS, possession of a CDS within a drug free zone, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under suspension. Carter was booked in the Evangeline Parish Detention Center.
Later on that same day, during a compliance checkpoint conducted on La Hwy 13, Gary Bush, of Monroe, was found to be in possession of illegal narcotics. Officers immediately observed the smell of marijuana emitting from the vehicle upon contact with Bush, who attempted to conceal a bag of suspected marijuana in his mouth. K9 ICE made a positive alert for illegal narcotics in the vehicle, and a search was conducted where paraphernalia and scattered marijuana was observed.
Gary Bush was arrested and booked in the Evangeline Parish Detention Center for possession of Schedule I CDS, third offense, possession of a CDS in a drug free zone, possession of drug paraphernalia and obstruction of justice- tampering or destruction of evidence. Bush was also cited for not having proof of compulsory insurance.
Chief Shawn Eckhart would like to remind the community to report all suspicious activity by calling 337-363-3345 or 911 for emergencies. He would also like to extend his appreciation to Pine Prairie Police Department for their continued support and assistance.
