Students claim honors at the Southwest District Show

Evangeline Parish 4-H Club members participated in the 2018 Southwest District Livestock Show held January 31 - February 3, 2018 in Lake Charles at the W.T. Burton Coliseum and McNeese Show Complex. The Southwest District Show is represented by Evangeline and six other parishes; Acadia, Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, and Jeff Davis.
Exhibitors participated in the Southwest District Livestock Show to qualify for an opportunity to compete in the LSU AgCenter State Livestock Show in Gonzales, Louisiana, February 10-17, 2018.
Judges at the Southwest District Livestock Show determine the champions in various breeds of beef cattle, dairy cattle, sheep, swine, and goats. The winners from Evangeline Parish are listed as follows.
•Morgan McDaniel of the Ville Platte FFA Club exhibited the Grand Champion Beefmaster Bull and the Grand Champion LA Bred Beefmaster Bull.
•Jeanne-Marie Fontenot of Sacred Heart 4-H exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion Beefmaster Bull.
•Gabriel Fontenot, a Sacred Heart 4-H’er, exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion La. Bred Beefmaster Bull.
•Ellen Deshotel of Vidrine 4-H exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion LA Bred Braford Bull.
•Kadie Fontenot, a Pine Prairie 4-H’er received the 2018 E.W. Hayes $500.00 Memorial Scholarship being the Reserve Champion Jr. Beef Showman.
•Alyson Fontenot, a Sacred Heart 4-H’er exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion LA Bred Red Brahman Heifer.
•Scott Berzas, a Basile 4-H’er exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion La. Bred Simbrah Bull.
•Ali Fontenot, a Sacred Heart 4-H’er exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion LA Bred Simmental Bull.
•Connor Soileau, a Sacred Heart 4-H’er exhibited the Grand Champion LA Bred AOB Dairy Cow.
•Josi Deshotel, Sacred Heart 4-H’er exhibited the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Mytonics Doe. She also exhibited the Grand Champion Mytonics Buck.
•Kamryn Arnaud, a Sacred Heart 4-H’er exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion Nubians Doe.
•Madelie Fontenot, Sacred Heart 4-H’er exhibited the Grand Champion and Reserve Champion Division 1 Market Goat and received $1000.00 for exhibiting the 2018 Grand Champion Market Goat. Madelie also received $1500.00 being the 2018 John E. Jackson Senior Champion Goat Showman.
•Elliot Fontenot, a Sacred Heart 4-H’er received $1500.00 being the 2018 John E. Jackson Junior Champion Goat Showman.
•Kaden Fontenot, Member at Large 4-H’er exhibited the Champion Division 2 Market Goat and also received $800.00 for exhibiting the 2018 Reserve Grand Champion Market Goat.
•Katelyn “Jade” Zaunbrecher, Basile 4-H’er exhibited the Reserve Champion Division 2 LA Bred AOB Black Face Cross Market Lamb.
•Briseyda Deshotel, a Member at Large 4-H’er exhibited the Reserve Champion Division 1 Hampshire Market Lamb.
•Olivia Soileau, Member at Large 4-H’er exhibited the Champion Hampshire, Champion LA Bred Hampshire Market Hog, and the Champion Division 2 Cross Gilt Market Hog. Olivia also exhibited the Overall Grand Champion Cross Gilt Market Hog and received $800.00 for exhibiting the 2018 Reserve Champion Market Hog.
•Emma Brunet, a Sacred Heart 4-H’er exhibited the Champion and Champion LA Bred Division 1 Cross Gilt Market Hog. Emma also exhibited the Overall Reserve Grand Champion LA Bred Cross Gilt Market Hog.
