From using social media as an outlet, to choosing the latest “drippy” fashion, to rocking out to the latest sounds of Drake and Rod Wave, Pine Prairie’s Jospeh St. Romain epitomizes what it means to be growing up in today’s society.
He recently answered some questions about what issues members of his generation face today.
Question: How big of a role does social media play in your life? Are most of your friends and schoolmates on social media?
Answer: At first, it was really just an outlet to connect with friends and share videos and pictures that we thought were funny. Now, social media plays multiple roles in my life. At times I use it as a break from things going on in real life for it sometimes gives me a real good laugh. I use it to learn new things and stay updated on the world outside of mine. However, I deem too much of it to be dangerous to my mental health. That’s why I do my best to use it in moderation. While most of my friends are on social media, I do have a few who don’t indulge in it.

Question: What fashion style best fits your personality? What are the fashion trends in your school?
Answer: I think casual/sporty would best fit my personality. Something along the lines of a regular t-shirt, athletic shorts, and some sneakers. On some rare occasions however, I love to come out and dress with more streetwear. Most of my peers would say I look “drippy,” meaning I have a lot of style with much finesse.

Question: What do you and your schoolmates like to eat? Is health a concern for you?
Answer: Health is a concern for me. I think about staying in shape all the time. Whether that’s counting how many calories I eat or working out a bit extra for those late night honey buns.

Question: What are your typical beauty/grooming habits? What kinds of products do you use?
Answer: I don’t really have many grooming habits other than washing my face in the morning and brushing my hair throughout the day. I usually use Dial soap to wash my face and I use a bristle brush for my hair.

Question: Do you have a job? Do most of your schoolmates have jobs? Where do you/they work? Does work interfere with school? What are you saving your money for?
Answer: I currently do not have a job. Most of my peers do have jobs. They usually work at like restaurants and grocery stores nearby.

Question: What genre of music do you and your schoolmates like? Who are your favorite bands/artists?
Answer: Rap/RnB is where it’s at. Although there is explicit language in most rap songs, it’s very easy for me to vibe with the beat and rhythm of them. So does a large majority of my peers. My favorite artist used to be Drake, but Rod Wave is just amazing and I can really connect with his music. You can name any of his songs and I would sing it word for word. His new album is coming out march 26th; I’ll definitely be listening to it this weekend. And hey, maybe you can give him a listen too, you might like it!
