School Board welcomes new principals

The Evangeline Parish School Board, Wednesday, welcomed new principals and assistant principals, as well as new staff members. The new principal of Mamou High School is Rico Guillory. Kim Manuel is the new assistant principal at Mamou High. Debbie Soileau is the new principal at Vidrine Elementary. Alice LeJeune is the new principal of Pine Prairie High. Ville Platte High is getting two new assistant principals: Sarah Hamlin LaFleur and Chenile Tezeno. Dawn Hardy is the new assistant principal at Evangeline Central Alternative. Basile High’s new assistant principal is Mindy Janot. In other positions, Superintendent Darwin Lazard announced Keith Scott is the new SPED district supervisor, and Anita West is the new curriculum and operational facilitator for the district. Lazard said of the new assignees, “They will be doing good things for our teachers and good things for our students.”
In other business, the school board approved the Lafayette company Copy and Camera’s proposal to change out 12 copiers. They are only changing out the copy machines that have expired leases. CFO Amy LaFleur said, “That’s going to yield us a savings of approximately $884.29 per month.” The board also agreed to enter a lease with Copy and Camera to replace additional copiers as leases expire on the older machines.
In other action, the board:
• allocated up to $125,000.00 for text books for the 2019-2020 school year.
• authorized Superintendent Lazard to execute a cooperative agreement between the school board and the Village of Pine Prairie regarding the placement and use of a school-board-owned concession stand on the village property, utilized by the PPHS baseball program.
• accepted Associated Food Equipment & Supplies’ low bid of $24,675.00 for one cooler and $26,500.00 for one freezer for Ville Platte Elementary.
• accepted Lafayette Restaurant Supply, Inc.’s low bid of $27,890.00 for one freezer for James Stephens Montessori.
• approved $5,980.00 to Flynn Building Specialties, Inc. for doors on the first floor of the Ville Platte High two-story brick building.
• approved the ratification of LearnZillion, Inc. in the amount of $38,136 for contract renewal for guide books for English Language Arts for 2019-2020.
• approved $11,475.00 to Modern Technologies for Education for Chromebooks/licenses/installation/war warranty upgrade and Chromecart for Mamou High.
