Sacred Heart falls in both contests at Opelousas Cath.

OPELOUSAS -- The Sacred Heart Trojans and Lady Trojans traveled to Opelousas Catholic Friday night to take on the Vikings and Lady Vikings, and both Sacred Heart squads were handed devastating losses.
The Lady Vikings dominated the Lady Trojans 39-25 in an outstanding defensive showing.
With the loss the Lady Trojans fell to 6-16 on the season and 3-5 in district play. Sacred Heart will host False River Tuesday.
The Vikings manhandled the Trojans in all aspects of the game, in an impressive 101-42 victory.

Although the first period was rather close, when the ladies hit the floor, the Lady Vikings did not give the Lady Trojans a chance to breathe the entire game.
After a slow paced first period that ended in a 5-4 lead in favor of Opelousas Catholic, the Lady Vikings started to take control.
Besides raking in 17 total points in the second period, the Opelousas Catholic defense only allowed four shots on the goal for Sacred Heart. The Lady Trojans were able to convert on two of those four attempts. However, the Lady Vikings closed out a dominant period with a 22-8 advantage.
The third period was slightly more competitive as the two teams matched each other point for point. The clubs struggled to piece together consecutive scores and ultimately both squads ended up scoring 10 points a piece in the period. As the horn sounded to end the period, Opelousas Catholic still held the lead, 32-18.
The final quarter was a wash, as the two teams matched each other point for point to close out the game.
Amanda Bergeron led the way for the Lady Trojans with eight points.
In the nightcap game, the Vikings dominated the Trojans from minute one and never slowed down. By the time the first quarter closed out, Opelousas Catholic held a 26-14 lead.
In the second quarter, the Vikings punctuated their hold on the game, out scoring Sacred Heart 28-10. Offensively, the Trojans picked up the pace in the third quarter, scoring 15 points. Unfortunately, Opelousas Catholic produced 21 points in that same period to lead 75-39 heading into the final period.
Sacred Heart floundered in the final period, as the Vikings allowed only two shots on goal..
