Although we’ve only been in session one month, the Louisiana House of Representatives has already passed multiple pieces of legislation to fundamentally transform our tax code to create greater stability for our state, businesses, and families such as HB 199 from Speaker Clay Schexnayder.
This past week, I set up conference calls with Rep. Schexnayder and the local leaders from my district to better help them understand the process and educate them going forward .
As your state representative, I’ve been a proud and active supporter of these measures in the Ways and Means Committee as well as on the House floor. If legislation is going to impact our local governments such as our schools, police, or towns; I have made sure I was in contact with our local leaders on any legislation that would impact them and all of you.
My passion and love of our rural areas drives me to be a loud voice for our often-overlooked part of Louisiana. I’m a proud co-author of House Bill 622 by my Democratic colleague Representative Francis Thompson. This legislation will create a Rural Development Program and Rural Development Fund to mitigate the rapid deterioration of rural health, education, infrastructure, and the other systems that are essential to the wellbeing of our state’s rural population.
In addition to helping pass much needed legislation, I am very excited to announce I was appointed to the Delta Regional Authority Program. This appointment will extend my knowledge base and connections for developing better drinking water, increasing Broadband Internet connectivity, creating economic cooperative agreements, and making our rural areas more attractive for business investment.
Being your public servant is one of the greatest burdens to be blessed with, and I am humbled by that every day. As session progresses and major bills advance through the House, I’ll continue to be open and transparent with the people of District 38 to ensure you’re informed with what is happening in Baton Rouge and how it’ll affect us all.
