Registrar of Voters calls first two days of early voting turnout “good”

Early voting kicked off on Tuesday, October 23rd, for the November 6th parish-wide and state-wide elections.
At the end of day one of early voting, a total of 444 votes were cast in person at the Evangeline Parish Registrar of Voters Office, located in the parish courthouse.
By 12:00 noon on day two a total of 594 votes had been cast in person. These votes coupled with absentee or mail in ballots were at a total of 709.
According to Registrar of Voters Lucas Buller, he considers this a “good turnout so far.” Buller, continued, “I’m looking forward to seeing everyone come out and vote.”
A break down of how many people have voted in person and absentee in each ward is as follows: Ward 1 (Ville Platte, Chataignier), 480; Ward 2 (Basile), 21; Ward 3 (Mamou), 131; Ward 4 (Pine Prairie, Beaver), 50; and Ward 5, 37 (Turkey Creek, Bayou Chicot).
Elections taking place consist of mayor, aldermen and chief of police in Ville Platte, Mamou, Chataignier and Basile, as well as school board member in Districts 1, 2 and 3. The state-wide race on the ballot is for Louisiana Secretary of State. There are also seven amendments voters will decide on during this election.
Early voting is set to end on October 30th.
