PPPD remains unresponsive to shooting

A gun was fired in the area of 4th Street in Pine Prairie on or about Monday, September 30.
After initially denying the incident when receiving a phone call from the Ville Platte Gazette, Assistant Police Chief Rick Ordner confirmed the incident and told The Gazette to contact officer Josh Uhlman with the Pine Prairie Police Department.
Officer Uhlman said there was not a shooting, but that a gun was fired into the air. He also reported a citation was issued to the alleged shooter. The Gazette late last week asked Officer Uhlman to provide a press release or any information in order to type an article about the incident.
As of Tuesday morning, The Gazette had still not received any information. So, a public records request was faxed to the police department in order to obtain the requested information.
The public records request in part states, “Under the Louisiana Public Records Act § 44:1 et seq., I am requesting a copy of any public records from the investigation into a shooting, which happened on or about September 30, 2019, at 9:45 p.m. in the area of 4th Street within the Village of Pine Prairie. This information should include, but is not limited to the following:

A narrative description of the alleged offense.
The time, date and location of the offense.
The name and identification of each person charged with the alleged offense or arrested for it.
The names of the investigating officers.

The disclosure of the requested information is in the public interest and will contribute significantly to the public’s understanding of a the incident in question and to a story that will run in the Ville Platte Gazette concerning the shooting.”
