At a special meeting held Wednesday, the Evangeline Parish Police Jury voted to adopt its budget for the year 2020.
“We have a balanced budget,” Secretary-Treasurer Donald Bergeron told the jurors.
As Bergeron explained, the police jury projects to have a surplus of $134,598.00 for 2020. The police jury will also begin the year with a cash balance of $571,023.00
There is also a certificate of deposit balance of $259,831.00 which gives the police jury a total ending cash balance of $704,622.00.
Bergeron added he does not anticipate the police jury to break the certificate of deposit which means the jury will end the year with $299,831.00.
The new fiscal year begins January 1, 2020.
In other business, the police jury:
• adopted the amended 2019 budget.
• approved the capital outlay plan.
• approved the 2020 Workers’ Comp quote.
• approved the 2020 budget for Evangeline Parish Communications District.
• authorized President Ryan “LeDay” Williams to sign documents related to the purchase of property for an animal shelter.
• approved a cooperative endeavor agreement with Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs.
• adopted the Acadiana Crime Lab budget for 2020.
• set the January meeting date for Monday, January 6, 2020.
• approved supporting Juror Bryan Vidrine’s candidacy for Region 7 Executive Board Member of the Police Jury Association of Louisiana.
