Pine Prairie Chief of Police LC Deshotel, during the village council meeting held last Thursday, requested an increase in pay.
Mayor Quint West told the council he will “pull up the numbers” and give the councilmembers copies of the police department’s projected revenue.
“I can give you all the numbers,” he said. “Y’all can look at it, and y’all can decide yourself if y’all think it’s feasible. Then we can discuss it again at a later date.”
Earlier in the meeting, Mayor West discussed work being done at the ballpark, including the T-Ball field.
“We put a lot of work into the T-Ball field the last couple of days,” he said.
The mayor went on to say, “I think T-Ball needs a lot of attention because the majority of our kids right now are in T-Ball. The old ones are going to travel ball.”
Also discussed was the status of the property cleanup in the village.
Mayor West said, “We are making headway on some of them.”
Councilman Kevin Rodriguez stated, “We’re making real progress on cleaning up these properties. I think we’re on the right path.”
In other business, the council adopted a resolution declaring April 2021 as Fair Housing Month, adopted a resolution declaring National Community Development Week, and approved the hiring of another full-time police officer contingent upon his passing of a psychological exam, physical exam, and drug screen.
