Pine Prairie Panthers earn huge win; Mamou Demons blow out Eunice

After an uncharacteristic three game slide, the Pine Prairie Panthers garnered a huge 70-65 win over the Northwest Raiders Thursday night. That win was key for the Panthers in their fight to stay in contention to host a first round playoff game.
With the win, Pine Prairie is now 16-7 on the year and 7-5 in district play. The Panthers will host Iota in another key district game tomorrow night.
Meanwhile, the Mamou Demons continued on their hot streak, blasting the Eunice Bobcats 66-46 Thursday night. This was the fifth win for the Demons in the last seven games and puts them back in the hunt for a shot at the post-season.
Mamou improves to 12-19 on the season and 5-7 in league play. The Demons will travel to Church Point tomorrow for another district game.
Also on Thursday night, the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers snapped a five game winning streak, as they fell 71-40 to the Northwest Lady Raiders. The Lady Panthers finish the season with an overall record of 20-11 and a District 5-3A record of 8-6.
Pine Prairie awaits the announcement of the LHSAA Class 3A playoff bracket to find out who they play in the first game of the post-season. That bracket is scheduled to be released today.

Pine Prairie (B)
vs. Northwest
The game began with both teams trying to feel each other out. Pine Prairie got three-point baskets from Raylin Thomas and Jordan Ardoin to help the Panthers move out to a 12-10 lead after one quarter of play.
Pine Prairie’s Isaiah Payne took control of the contest in the second quarter. The senior forward scored 15 points, including nine points from beyond the arc, to help the Panthers out produce the Raiders 23-11.
Payne picked up another 10 points in the third quarter, however, Northwest out scored Pine Prairie 27-20, to make it a 55-48 game. The Panthers hit six out of nine free throws down the stretch to hold on for the win.
Payne led all scorers with 32 points.

Eunice (B) vs. Mamou
Despite trailing 11-9 after one quarter of play, the Mamou Demons blew past Eunice in the second quarter, outpacing the Bobcats 26-8 to take a 35-19 lead into the locker room.
Mamou continued to dominate in the third quarter, gaining an eight point advantage, 19-11, over Eunice. The Bobcats ended the game with a 16-12 edge.
Leandre Harrison led the way for the Demons with 23 points. Kyrin Green and Brian Thomas each chipped in 15 points for Mamou.

Pine Prairie (G)
vs. Northwest
It was a rough night offensively for Pine Prairie, as they trailed 16-5 at the end of the first quarter and 37-16 heading into the locker room.
Northwest outscored the Lady Panthers 12-9 in the third quarter and finished with a 21-16 edge in the final period.
