The Evangeline Parish 4-H and FFA Jr. Livestock Show was held on Thursday, January 18 through Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Chauncey Pitre Memorial Building.
Over 90 Evangeline Parish 4-H’ers participated in this year’s Jr. Livestock Show. These 4-Her’s exhibited 30 market hogs, 24 market lambs, 17 market goats, 14 broiler pens, 7 head of dairy cattle, 33 head of breeding cattle, 7 head of breeding goats, 12 commercial heifers and 2 head of breeding sheep. The livestock show is a venue in which 4-Her’s exhibit their animal projects after months of preparation. The preparation includes selection, nutrition, health care, training and grooming of their animals. These responsibilities teach 4-H’ers life skills such as communication, discipline, leadership and finance management. The life skills gained through their animal project are values that will benefit them into adulthood and ultimately into their careers.
The 4-H and FFA livestock program is sponsored by the LSU AgCenter. The 4-H program is open to all youth between the ages of 9 and 19. Children can join 4-H in schools in Evangeline Parish at the beginning of the school year. It is the policy of the LSU AgCenter that no person shall be subjected to discrimination on the grounds of race, color, national origin, gender, religion, age, veteran status, or disability.

Judges at the Evangeline Parish Livestock Show determine the champions of various breeds of beef, dairy, sheep, goats, swine, and poultry. The winners for the parish show are listed as follows.
•Grand Champion & Reserve Grand Champion Market Goat was exhibited by Madelie Fontenot, a member of the Sacred Heart 4-H club.
•Grand Champion Senior Goat Showman was Madelie Fontenot, a Sacred Heart 4-H’er and the Grand Champion Junior Goat Showman was Elliot Fontenot, a Sacred Heart 4-H’er.
•Grand Champion AOB Breeding Goat Buck was exhibited by Josi Deshotel, a Sacred Heart 4-H’er. Reserve Grand Champion AOB Breeding Goat Buck was exhibited by Kamryn Arnaud, member of the Sacred Heart 4-H Club.
•Grand Champion AOB Breeding Goat Doe was exhibited by Kamryn Arnaud, a Sacred Heart 4-H’er. Reserve Grand Champion Breeding Goat Doe was exhibited by Josi Deshotel, a Sacred Heart 4-H’er.
•Grand Champion Market Lamb was exhibited by Briseyda Deshotel, a Member at Large 4-H’er. The Reserve Grand Champion Market Lamb was exhibited by Eli Thomas, a Member at Large 4-H’er.
•Grand Champion Commercial Ewe was exhibited by Jose’ Deshotel, a Member at Large 4-H’er. Reserve Grand Champion Commercial Ewe was exhibited by Nicholas Manuel, a Member at Large 4-H’er.
•Grand Champion Senior Sheep Showman was Jose’ Deshotel, a Member at Large 4-H’er, and the Grand Champion Junior Sheep Showman was Eli Thomas, a Member at Large 4-H’er.
•Grand Champion Market Swine was exhibited by Olivia Soileau, a Member at Large 4-H member. Reserve Grand Champion Market Swine was exhibited by Emma Brunet, a Sacred Heart 4-H’er.
•Grand Champion Senior Swine Showman was Jamerson LeDay of the Ville Platte High 4-H Club. The Grand Champion Junior Swine Showman was Olivia Soileau, a Member at Large 4-H’er.
•Grand Champion Broiler Pen was shown by Cale Bieber of the Mamou 4-H club. Reserve Grand Champion Broiler Pen was shown by Caroline Garrett of the Sacred Heart 4-H Club.
•The Grand Champion Senior Broiler Showman was Wesley Vidrine, a Ville Platte High 4-H’er. The Grand Champion Junior Broiler Showman was Benjamin Romero of the Chataignier 4-H Club.
•The Grand Champion & Reserve Grand Champion AOB Dairy Cow was exhibited by Connor Soileau, a Sacred Heart 4-H’er.
•The Grand Champion Commercial Dairy Cow was exhibited by Abbie Fontenot, a Basile 4-H’er. Reserve Grand Champion Commercial Dairy Cow was exhibited by Aidan Soileau, a Sacred Heart 4-H’er.
•The Grand Champion Senior Dairy Showman was Connor Soileau, a Sacred Heart 4-H’er. The Grand Champion Junior Dairy Showman was Abbie Fontenot, a Basile 4-H club member.
•Grand Champion AOB Brahman Influence Female was exhibited by Brandon Fontenot of the Mamou 4-H Club. Reserve Grand Champion AOB Brahman Influence Female was exhibited by Jade Zaunbrecher of the Basile 4-H Club.
•Grand Champion AOB Brahman Influence Bull was exhibited by Ellen Deshotel of the Vidrine 4-H Club. Reserve Grand Champion AOB Brahman Influence Bull was exhibited by Braxton Fontenot of the Mamou 4-H Club.
•Grand Champion AOB Non Brahman Influence Bull was exhibited by Ali Fontenot , a Sacred Heart 4-H’er. Reserve Grand Champion AOB Non Brahman Influence Bull was exhibited by Emily Deshotel of the Vidrine 4-H Club.
•Grand Champion AOB Non Brahman Influence Heifer was exhibited by Tucker Fontenot of the Sacred Heart 4-H Club and Reserve Grand Champion AOB Non Brahman Influence Heifer was exhibited by Silas Fontenot of the Sacred Heart 4-H Club.
•Grand Champion Beefmaster Bull was exhibited by Jeanne-Marie Fontenot of the Sacred Heart 4-H Club. Reserve Grand Champion Beefmaster Bull was exhibited by Morgan McDaniel of Ville Platte FFA.

•Grand Champion Brahman Influence Commercial Heifer and Overall Champion Commercial Heifer was exhibited by Silas Fontenot, a member of the Sacred Heart 4-H Club and Reserve Grand Champion Brahman Influence Commercial Heifer was exhibited by Jace Ortego, member of the Sacred Heart 4-H Club.
•Grand Champion Non Brahman Influence Commercial Heifer was exhibited by Harley Fontenot of the Ville Platte High 4-H Club.
•Grand Champion Senior Beef Showman was Harley Fontenot, a Ville Platte High 4-H’er and Grand Champion Junior Beef Showman was Ellen Deshotel, a member of the Vidrine 4-H Club.
•Harley Fontenot was selected as the Overall Grand Champion Beef Showman. A Chris Shipp Memorial Champion Beef Showmanship plaque was presented to her in memory of Chris Shipp and donated by the Clay Brignac Family.
•Monty Fontenot received the Beef Premier Exhibitor Award given in memory of Cecil Guillory.
