New family nurse practitioner services are now available to residents of Ville Platte and the surrounding area through Mercy Regional Medical Center.
Brooklyn Latour, of Latour Family Healthcare on Jack Miller Rd., addressed the Tuesday, September 15, meeting of the Rotary Club of Ville Platte.
Latour said she specializes as a family nurse practitioner because she likes “to be able to take care of patients in all ages ranging from infants to the elderly.”
She began treating patients while working with an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) doctor and a pediatrician in Eunice. She called that experience “very valuable because I got two sub-specialties, and I hope to bring some of that back to the community here.”
To that end, Latour is looking to bring some of those services to her location. “We are currently in the process of collaborating with an ENT so that we can bring some more services to this community because there is not one in Evangeline Parish,” she said.
Latour went over the other services she provides as a family nurse practitioner. Among those services is treatment for hearing loss.
“My goal is to get an audiologist to our facility,” she said.
Because of lingering concerns of viral infections due to COVID-19, many people are hesitant to go to hospitals for their lab work. As a result, Latour said her facility has labs set up through Mercy Regional Medical Center.
“A lot of patients are starting to utilize the labs in our office,” she said.
