The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office has reported the arrest of one individual following a motorcycle pursuit that occurred last weekend.
In a release from the EPSO, the suspect in this matter was identified as 30-year-old Stephen Paul Godeaux.
According to the release, “On September 15, 2018, Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Deputies were working a traffic accident on US Hwy 167 (Opelousas Road) and saw a motorcyclist committing a traffic code violation of LA RS 32:190 – Helmet Required (Motorcycle).”
The release went on to state that “Evangeline Parish deputies and Louisiana State Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop, however, the rider, later identified as Godeaux, accelerated away.”
Godeaux, according to law enforcement, “led them on a high speed pursuit through the parish and outside the parish,” and “several local police agencies joined in to assist.” Those agencies were the Ville Platte Police Department, Pine Prairie Police Department, Mamou Police Department, Eunice Police Department and Opelousas Police Department.
In its release, the EPSO states that “the pursuit came to an end in St. Landry Parish, where the motorcyclist collided with a Eunice Police Department unit causing him to lay the motorcycle down.”
Godeaux was arrested on several traffic violations. He was booked into the Eunice Police Department before being released to the EPSO on a “summons for reckless operation.”
In Evangeline Parish, Godeaux has been charged with flight from an officer, reckless operation, no helmet, no tail lamp, no insurance, no license plate and suspended driver’s license.
