On Tuesday, Louisiana State Police reported that a two vehicle crash along La. Hwy. 10 resulted in the death of 62-year-old Connie Fuselier of Eunice.
A press release from LSP Troop I’s Trooper Thomas Gossen stated the initial investigation of this crash “revealed that the crash occurred as Fuselier was riding a 2007 Honda motorcycle eastbound on La. Hwy. 10,” while “28-year-old Chris Humphrey of Baton Rouge was traveling westbound on La. Hwy. 10 in a 2012 Dodge Ram.”
According to the release, “as the two vehicles approached, Fuselier crossed over into the westbound lane,” and “in an attempt to avoid the collision, Humphrey steered left.”
The 62-year-old then “steered back right and the vehicles struck head-on near the center line.”
LSP reported “Fuselier suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash,” and was “transported from the scene to Mercy Regional Medical Center in Ville Platte where he succumbed to those injuries.”
Impairment on the part of Fuselier, according to state police, is unknown at this time, but a toxicology sample will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. LSP also reported the driver of the Dodge Ram “was properly restrained and was uninjured, and impairment is not suspected.”
This crash remains under investigation.
In closing, “Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle.”
The LSP release stated “Making good choices such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, avoiding all distractions, and obeying all traffic laws can often mean the difference between life and death. While not all crashes are survivable, Troopers encourage all riders to take an approved motorcycle safety course.”
