In a short meeting of the Mamou Town Council, Mayor Ricky Fontenot presented Municipal Clerk Guy Pucheu with a plaque commemorating 30 years of public service.
There were no action items discussed at the meeting. Charles Guillory, who announced his candidacy for Evangeline Parish Sheriff in next year’s election, addressed the Council, detailing his qualifications and some of his plans if elected.
In presenting Pucheu with the plaque, Fontenot noted that the clerk is invaluable to the town’s operations. Previously, Pucheu served 11 years as the Ville Platte clerk before taking on the Mamou job 19 years ago.
After the meeting, Fontenot continued to praise Pucheu’s integrity and performance.
“There’s no guy like Guy,” laughed Fontenot. “He’s loyal and committed to the Town of Mamou.
“No town can survive and thrive without a good clerk,” Fontenot continued. “And Guy’s not just a good clerk: he’s one of the best. He’s very respected in the clerk field. We get calls from other town clerks to ask him about the do’s and don’t’s of how to handle the day-to-day operations.
“I’ve worked with him – as a councilman and now as mayor – for nearly twenty years,” Fontenot said, “and I know that he’s not just professional. He’s also a humble and honest Christian man.”
In other business, Fontenot also invited the public to the opening of the town’s baseball league, at 8:30 am on Saturday, April 7.
