A three vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of Veteran Memorial Highway (La. Hwy. 13) and La. Hwy. 106 brought traffic to a complete stop on Friday, July 13, 2018, for nearly two hours.
Since obtaining a copy of the Louisiana State Police’s crash report on the matter, the details that led to the accident can be known.
According to the crash report, a trooper with Louisiana State Police Troop I was dispatched to the incident at “approximately 2246 hours (9:46 p.m.).”
The crash report revealed that the vehicles involved in the accident were a gray Saturn Arua, a white Nissan Altima, and a gray Ford F-150.
According to the crash report, upon arrival at the scene, Troopers were informed by the driver of the Nissan Altima that “she was traveling north on La. 13 when vehicle #1 (Saturn Arua) attempted to turn left in front of her onto La. 106.”
The driver of the Ford F-150 told the LSP that “she was traveling behind vehicle #1 (Saturn Arua),” and that she observed vehicle #1 turn directly in front of vehicle #2 (Nissan Altima).”
The driver of the truck then continued to share that after impact was made between vehicle #1 and vehicle #2, “vehicle #1 spun and struck her vehicle as she attempted to avoid being struck.”
In the report from the LSP, it states that the Trooper investigating the matter, “located fluid spatter, debris and roadway scrapes in the northbound lane of La. 13, indicating the general area of impact.” The trooper also reported that “evidence at the crash scene indicated vehicle #1 (Saturn Arua) and vehicle #3 (Ford F-150) were traveling southbound on La. 13 while vehicle #2 (Nissan Altima) was traveling northbound on La. 13.”
When the driver of the Saturn Arua turned left and struck the Nissan Altima on its front bumper and grill area, “both vehicles began to rotate.”
The Saturn rotated and struck the Ford F-150 on its “driver side rear door and bed before coming to a rest facing west across La. 13.”
The Nissan Altima came to a “rest on the east shoulder of La. 13 facing north.”
Following the crash, three individuals were transported to the hospital by Acandian Ambulance and treated for minor injuries.
The driver of the Saturn Arua was cited by the LSP for careless operation and no seatbelt.
Also assisting LSP in handling this matter were Pine Prairie Volunteer Firefighters, first responders, Pine Prairie Police Department and the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office.
