Louisiana Swamp Pop Museum reopens

The Louisiana Swamp Pop Museum is reopening Friday, September 18th. It will be the first time it is open to the public since it was closed in March because of COVID-19. Now that Louisiana is in Phase III of reopening, Ville Platte Mayor Jennifer Vidrine is allowing the museum, which is owned by the city, to open, albeit with safety measures in place. Face coverings are required, no exceptions. Social distancing must be maintained when inside the museum, and upon entry, temperatures will be checked. Also, groups of six or more are not permitted to enter until further notice.
Most visitors to the museum are from out of town, even out of state or out of country. Given the recent displacement of southwest Louisiana residents from Hurricane Laura, some of whom are staying with family and friends in Evangeline Parish, Museum director Sharon Fontenot said, “Maybe this will provide locals and others in southwest Louisiana with an educational and interesting distraction from their problems.”
The Swamp Pop Museum is open Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., located at 205 NW Railroad Ave. in Ville Platte. Due to the pandemic, their annual birthday celebration, usually held in September, is cancelled this year.
