The Louisiana Cotton Association has announced the royalty for this year’s 66th Louisiana Cotton Festival set for October 8 through October 13.
According to a press release from the association, “Dr. Dan D. Fromme, a professor with the LSU AgCenter who serves as the state specialist for cotton, corn, and grain sorghum, will be crowned King Cotton 65th; and Mr. Maynor Fontenot, our very own WWII veteran of Ville Platte, will serve as the Grand Parade Marshal of the Grand Parade of Cotton.”
Colonel Cotton is yet to be determined.
The press release continued as follows: “Miss Abigail Fruge is the reigning Queen Cotton 65th. She will crown her successor Saturday October 12 at our Cotton Coronation starting at 5:30 p.m.”
“This year’s festival will be dedicated to our board member who passed away this year, Miss Peggy Ritter.”
“This years theme is – ‘Get your kicks with Cotton 66!’ Friday night we will have our annual ‘Fais-Do-Do’ starting at 7 p.m. with our local guy Ashton Dupre to kick off the night, then Keith Frank and The Soileau Zydeco Band will be our head-line entertainment. He will take the stage from 10 p.m. til midnight.”
“Our Cotton Festival fair will return with Gold Star Amusement a family base carnival.”
“Remember all day Friday there will be a gate fee for entering the fairgrounds. Friday is the only day we collect a gate fee. The gate this year will be next to the canal.”
Members of the Cotton Festival Association would like to invite everyone to join them at the North Side Civic Center to have a Cotton Pickin Good Time!
