A jury of 12 members and two alternates was selected Tuesday evening in the case of State of Louisiana vs. Zackery Shane Deville.
Deville is accused of stabbing former Turkey Creek Chief of Police Robert Leggett in the face back in March of 2018.
At the time of the incident, it was reported, the initial investigation revealed Chief Leggett was attempting to arrest Deville for criminal trespassing. As the arrest was being made, Deville got into a physical altercation with Chief Leggett and ultimately brandishing a knife and stabbing Chief Leggett across his left cheek. The chief was transported by AIRMED to be immediately treated. Chief Leggett was stable at time of arrival, later underwent an emergency surgery and was in the Intensive Care Unit.

Upon the completion of jury selection, hearings on several motions filed by Deville’s attorney Trisha Ward were held Wednesday morning in Judge Gary Ortego’s courtroom.
