A second arrest was made by the Ville Platte Police Department following an overdose two years ago that claimed the life of Christopher Ortego.
In a press release, the Police Chief Neil Lartigue stated, “In June of 2016, an investigation was launched into the circumstances surrounding the suspicious death of 47-year-old Christopher Ortego.”
The release continued, “Ortego was found deceased inside of his residence on June 16, 2016. The coroner’s report revealed that Ortego had died of a drug overdose.”
“According to the initial investigation, a suspect was quickly identified, and detectives worked the case to gather evidence and witness statements. The investigation lasted almost two years and led to the arrest of Jason Brent Soileau, 39, 144 Stephanie Street, Ville Platte. Soileau was charged with possession of schedule II with intent to distribute and second degree murder. Soileau was arrested without incident, booked into the Ville Platte City Jail, and later transferred to the Evangeline Parish Jail on a $90,000.00 bond.”
Previously arrested in connection with the same incident was Jeffery Fontenot, 32, 169 Valerie Lane, Ville Platte. He was arrested April 13, 2018, after detectives obtained evidence where Fontenot provided the victim with illegal narcotics.
Fontenot at that time was charged with distribution and possession of a schedule II narcotic and second degree murder and booked into the parish jail on a $90,000.00 bond.
