House fire results in father arrested for leaving child unattended

A Monday morning house fire has resulted in the arrest of a 30-year-old Ville Platte man.
According to a Lafayette television news station, Kriger Jones was booked in the Evangeline Parish Jail following the fire that broke out at around 8:30 a.m. Monday. The television news station reported a child, who was left unattended in the home, was rescued from the fire.
Firefighters from Fire District #2 responded to the house fire which occurred in the 1200 block of Fruge Street.
TV news stated a “neighbor told firefighters they were able to rescue the child after spotting the smoke and hearing the child crying inside the home.” They also reported, “the fire started around the stove in the home’s kitchen.”
Jones was arrested on one count of Child Dissertation. He was released from jail on a $2,500 bond.
